Sick Diver Down!

The second Hawaii dayAllisa and I. I am on the right. My snorkel and mask are really blue green. The deeper you go you lose color pigments.
This was such an interesting thing. I am not sure what it is. The dive leader handed it to me.
This is the dive leader.
The is sand it looks like rock. I thought it was interesting.

These are pictures from my first Hawaii dive. It was a boat dive. The seas were ROUGH that day. I got sea sick. It was terrible. On the way to the dive site I started to feel nauseated. I kept telling myself that I was not sea sick just a little nervous. I have never gotten sea sick before. The nausea increased with each roll of the waves. I became very sick when the boat stopped at our dive site. I never threw up but I had to work VERY hard not to. Woman who lead our dive told me to get in the water and I would feel better. She was right. But when I did the giant stride into the water I freaked out. This was my first big dive, and my first ocean dive. When I jumped in my mask flooded, I started hyperventilating. I think being sick added to my anxiety. I swam to the front of the boat as instructed and grabbed the anchor rope. The boat was moving up and down up and down. This made me even more sick. Allisa was also very nervous. When she swam around to the front of the boat she said I can't do this. Calming her down calmed me down. Later we were talking about the dive and she did not even know I was freaking out. And I was let me tell ya! But I soon calmed down once my face was in the water and the nausea left. Allisa soon calmed down too. Being in the water did not make me sick as long as my face was in the water. As soon as my head broke the surface and the fury of the waves pounded me and tossed me around like a rag doll I became instantly ill. It was miserable. I enjoyed the diving but I dreaded returning to the surface. Allisa returned to the boat when her air supply demanded it. I do not consume as much air as she does so I stayed down longer with the head diver. As soon as my head broke the surface to return to the boat I was ill. Getting on the boat was very difficult. I was so sick I was shaking. I was concentrating so hard on not throwing up that doing anything was difficult. On the boat ride to our next dive site I sat in the middle of the boat and stared at the shore line. The other people on the boat were eating, talking and laughing. The offered me food and tried to talk to me. They probably thought I was very rude. I could not talk let alone eat! Allisa said I was green. It is not easy being green! Hehehe! The second dive went well. I love diving. I kept my face in the water until I had to climb back on the boat. That helped so much. The sun was not out on our dive day. That makes to colors dull. Other than the dull colors and rough seas the dive was a good dive.

Kudos to you kiddo! I'm very impressed that you were able to go ahead and dive - and that's very interesting about losing color as you go deeper. Photos are VERY cool! I hope you were able to make more dives more comfortably! I think I would stay freaked out - I don't like heights and I don't think I would like deep, dark waters!

Jesse seemed to have trouble on the dive-boat and then when she surfaced after diving. I don't think it made her like diving so well, but she loved the snorkeling.

Sea-Gal: It was definitely a push though moment. I dove two more time. Shore dives, I was not sick at all!

The colors are lost according to the spectrum, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet.

I never freaked out when I had the terrible and scary dive partner during my training. I did not think I would freak out at all. I think being sick had a lot to do with it.

Heights do not bother me at all. And I love the ocean. I think you would like diving, you get to see a part of the ocean that is so different.

I will post more fish and coral pictures.

Lou: Tell Jesse that I found some WONDERFUL sea sickness medicine. I loved the snorkeling too.

Good on ya for "pushing thru." I know it couldn't have been as easy as you make it sound...

Great pics...and I can't wait for more!

Perfection: LOL! Thank you.

Buck: Thank you. It was hard to make myself get in the water. But everyone kept telling me I would feel better. The hardest part was climbing up the ladder after the dive. I was shaking so hard I could not pull myself up the ladder. It was miserable!

But I learned something. I get sea sick! LOL
