Does This Dress Make Me Look Fat?
Being honest is a tricky thing. Most people say they want honesty but in reality they don't. They want their ears tickled. Last week while shopping a woman in the dressing rooms asked me how she looked in a certain dress. I had a silent battle with myself. Should I be honest with her or tell her what she wants to hear? I said Do you want me to be honest or do you want me to tell you what you want to hear? She looked puzzled for a moment. Then said be honest. With such honesty one must be tactful and never rude. I said No ma'am that is not the most flattering dress for your body type. She asked why and I preceded to tell her why. She challenged me by asking me to fine a dress that would flatter her figure. I found one she bought it and she was happy. But there are many people out there who don't want honesty no matter how much they request it.

Good job, Ashley. You were honest and tactful at the same time. That's a trick most people never master.
I think I will have to take you shopping with me next time I need a new dress.

Ahhh... such are the rewards for honesty -- an unasked for task. One would think a woman would intuitively KNOW what sort of styles flatter her and which do not. Which, I suppose validates the ol' saying "Denial ain't just a river in Egypt."
As for me... I know the proper response when a woman... ANY woman... asks me "Does this make me look fat?" Self-preservation is the First Law of survival. ;-)
I need to take you shopping with me, everything I try on makes me look short and dumpy. I wonder why? I must be picking the wrong style. LOL LOL
Buck: You are a wise man.
Well...was she?
Sometimes you just wanna say...Honey (another reason i never call The Queen that)...it ain't the dress.
Throwin' a blanket over a draft horse don't look the same as throwin it over a thoroughbred.
Most of the time I shop to please myself cause if I'm happy who cares what anyone else thinks. Us girls do need to hear the truth if we ask though! I'd shop with you anytime Ash:)You did good.
Remind me not to go shopping with you. I can be honest with others, but you better duck and cover if you throw honesty my way!lol No, I'm not that bad.I don't think;)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ASHLEY!!!
(You missed sharing your birth date with SN2 by 24 hours, ya know.)
Happy Birthday! I'm dropping in from bag blog's blog.
Candid is good. Do you ever come to Texas to be a shopping aide?
Thanks for remembering Old Paul Newman. You would have to get by Joanne and me to marry him. Ha.
